Aarenet VoIP System and Microsoft Teams Integration
Aarenet announced today that it released an integration with the Microsoft Teams UCC solution. The integration enables connectivity between the external telephone network (PSTN) and connected MS Teams. MS Teams UCC users can receive incoming calls from non-MS Teams users and can also dial to any external or mobile phone number. In combination with the Aarenet vPBX extended telephony features like call distribution, call forwarding, voice mail and Interactive Voice Response (IVR) are part of the combined offering.
Microsoft Teams is a UC (unified communications) platform that combines workplace chat, video meetings, file storage (including collaboration on files), and application integration. The service integrates with the company's Office 365 productivity suite and features extensions that can integrate with non-Microsoft products.
Teams allow communities, groups, or teams to join through a specific URL or invitation sent by a team administrator or owner. Direct messages allow users to send private messages to a specific user rather than a group of people. Meetings can be scheduled or created ad-hoc and users visiting the group channel are able to see that a meeting is currently in progress. Until now, MS Teams is a closed group communication solution without built-in connectivity to the public telephone network.
The Aarenet integration enables customers to benefit from all Teams services plus granting basic PSTN service access, Class.5 Telephony services and also an integration with a vPBX extension. MS Teams client can now make and receive PSTN telephone calls.
In addition to the basic telephony features, advanced Class-5 integration will deploy many additional services to the MS Teams clients, such as call distributions, call forking, IVR, advanced call forwarding and Fax 2 Mail.
Frank Remmers, Sales Director at Aarenet: “The integration will enable us to open and focus on an additional marketsegment. Many IT consuting companies and product houses have experience in selling IT products and services but have been unfamiliar with telephony services. This barrier is now disappearing, and MS Teams can now be used to make any phone call into the public network. The integration combines the best of breeds and complements the missing link of either solution.Aarenet’s built-in features like call forwarding, fax3mail and voicemail functionality fill the gap of the features required by the MS Teams users. Even though it is expected that (part of) this functionality will be developed within the application, this may still take some time. Aarenet can provide an integration for Aarenet users who want to deploy MS Teams and those MS Teams users who want to connect to the public telephony network.“
The integration can be realised through a cloud based operational model or through an on-premise based license scheme. The solution is fully redundant, supports mulitple tenants and can support a virtual unlimited number of different MS Teams instances.
Details of the included features will be communicated upon request.

New Aarenet desktop client “an Web-Phone”
Aarenet has released a new desktop client for Windows and Mac desktops. The application, based on WebRTC, provides a browser-oriented application that connects to the Aarenet VoIP System. It provides a phone extension without the need to connect a physical device. Chat and group chat functionality, secure voice encryption as well as video call support complete a suite of business applications.
WebRTC is an open-source web-based application technology and allows users to send real-time media without the need for installing plugins. The speech information is encrypted using the secure real time communication protocol (SRTP) and provides a good protection and privacy.
In the “an Web-Phone” application, busy state status can be made visible for all stored contacts which are connected to the same system and supports real-time status updates. During an active call, the user status is automatically changed to “busy”. Instant message functionality to online internal contacts further increases the user experience. Calling to compatible SIP phone or to Aarenet’s smartphone client “an IP-Phone” in video mode completes the set of comfort features.
To enhance the reachability of the user, a standalone desktop application, “an Web-Phone App” has been developed. Using this application, a standard executable desktop application is visible in the taskbar of the client.
Frank Remmers, Sales Director at Aarenet says: “The use of WebRTC technology broadens the application scope and will improve the user experience even further compared to a legacy phone. The trend from traditional telephone sets to the use of soft phones is visible and with the “an Web-Phone” we provide in combination with the Smartphone App an IP-Phone a valuable option. Through the application, the user can view and administer account features like call forwarding, voice mail settings and call distributions. Finally, the SRTP protocol ensures a good protection of the communication against eavesdrop attempts.”
The new application can be activated on all systems with software version 6.11 or higher. Customisation can be offered to show the customer’s logo and background colour in the application.
New Aarenet VoIP System Release 6.11
The new Aarenet VoIP System Release 6.11 has been released End of October 2018 for production. Effective immediately, systems deployed at new customers will be equipped with the new release. To advance in the development of desktop-based communication clients, a browser independent version of the softphone application “an Web-Phone” was developed. Supporting windows and MAC operating systems, the application allows WebRTC based telephony services without the need to keep a browser window open. This broadens the application scope and will improve the user experience. Through the application, the user can now view and administer account features like call forwarding, voice mail settings and call distributions. Managing the account through a single application improves and eases the end-user application experience.
Furthermore, the new version now supports the latest Polycom SIP Phones. The Polycom VVX 600 phone is built for executives and managers who need a powerful, yet intuitive, expandable office phone that helps them stay connected. Founded on the behavior common to smartphones and tablets, the intuitive gesture-based, multi-touch user interface of the VVX 600 phone makes navigation easy and requires minimal training. With its combined ergonomic design, Polycom HD Voice quality and a large, high resolution color, multi-touch screen, the VVX 600 Business Media phone is ideal.
Together with the VVX 600, also auto-provisioning features for the VVX 410 and VVX 201 are developed and integrated.

TalkTalk and Aarenet Implement Voice App to Reduce Roaming Charges
Talktalk AG implemented the Aarenet VoIP app for IOS and Android smartphones to offer an alternative to make voice calls whilst roaming to their customers. With the application, travellers can reduce their roaming charges (roam like home) in any location with Wi-Fi network coverage.
Karl Steinke, CEO TalkTalk AG: "We wanted to offer a solution for our customers with a mobile postpaid contract. We know that roaming costs during holidays or during business travels are still a major part of the invoiced charges and limit also the customer to use their mobile phone subscription abroad. Our target was to offer an additional benefit for our customers. The integration of the Aarenet solution into our customer account login makes it extremely easy for the customer to use. When our customers leave for their summer vacation or are travelling for business, calls they make are charged on the same tariff as for calls made in Switzerland".

Next to the significant savings for outgoing calls compared to mobile roaming charges, a strong point we can offer is the easy provision through QR code scanning and the automatic linking with the user account. Roaming charges in Europe may further reduce or may even be included into a flat fee rate, but travellers to countries outside of the EU may still incur significant roaming charges. The Aarenet solution for TalkTalk works anywhere in the world if Wi-Fi data is available".

“an WebPhone” supports telephony and video calling. Furthermore, webconferencing can be started at the click of a URL link without the need to communicate usernames and passwords to the participants. Chat / Instant Messaging and an integration of the personal Voice Mail account complete the feature set. For advanced developments, Aarenet offers an Application Programming Interface (API) to enable an integration into webpages and client applications.

Programmable fraud detection rules added to the Aarenet Security Suite provide an additional tool to help to detect fraudulent use of the system.

Aarenet Releases New Smartphone App Version with IOS 10 Callkit Integration
Aarenet announced today that it has released the new version of their smartphone app “an IP-Phone” including IOS 10 CallKit integration. CallKit integrates Aarenet VoIP application into the smartphone’s native dialler. As of now, it is no longer necessary to enter the device’s pin code to de-block the iPhone upon an incoming call and users can enjoy an improved integrated call experience.
CallKit integrates different telephony features and third party telephony features in the native IOS app. Using the framework, incoming calls are displayed fully on the screen, even if the phone is locked. CallKit enables to select the Aarenet VoIP app when making calls from the native iPhone dialler as well as dialling from the contacts, favorites and history list. The native phone dialler and Aarenet’s VoIP application can now interchange seamlessly. This includes all aspects of telephony, including merging incoming and missed call lists.
Frank Remmers, Sales Director at Aarenet says: “The fact that Apple now enables applications providers to integrate their apps into the device’s user experience, is a big change and a huge benefit for all VoIP providers and end-users. Aarenet’s smartphone application now fully integrated into the native dialler and it is easier for the user to use and access the application. This is a further step to enable and use a fixed line connection on your smartphone. Not only will this help to increase the reachability of the user, but it can also contribute to reduce mobile call charges. Mobile call charges and roaming charges are still high on the market if compared to fixed line call rates. Although many mobile providers offer flat fee packages, these do come at a certain price and if calculated down to the used minutes, most users overpay for their usage. Our smartphone application merely needs a data connection through WiFi or mobile data and offers all comfort features which are expected by the users and allows full mobility at fixed line rates. Furthermore, do our customers appreciate the secure and uncomplicated setup and registration process.”
The new features are available as of V2.5 of the “an IP-Phone” app available on Apple app store.

Aarenet Selected to Deliver Carrier Class Voice Solution in the Region of Wil - Switzerland
New VoIP System Release 6.3
The new Aarenet VoIP System Release 6.3 was released end of June 2016 for production. Effective immediately, all new systems will be equipped with the new release. An update service for existing installations can be offered without impacting the availability of active service.
The new Release supports WebRTC services and includes additional features for the virtual PBX integration and extensions on the Aarenet security suite. Other system related functionality include the Fixed Mobile Convergence feature integration where the system can recognize mobile phones based on the asserted Call ID. The integration of a WebRTC media server supports the handling of browser initiated voice and video calls and is a further feature in the Aarenet Unified Communications and Collaboration (UCC) Suite.
In a combined residential and corporate system setup, the system administrator can now select for each single vPBX instance a dedicated trunk prefix. Omitting the trunk prefix is beneficial to integrate stand-alone SIP clients not fully integrated in the system and enables dialing of stored contacts from the native contacts without the need to define re-writing rules. Virtual PBX users can now also send SMS messages to internal subscribers. This service needs an active linked SMS gateway.
Next to further performance improvement and general maintenance, the new version includes the new CPE Center which supports interactive CPE configuration for mass CPE deployment environments.

New Security Suite Integrated in Aarenet VoIP System
Security in Carrier Grade VoIP systems is an important factor in a professional VoIP environment. Unexpected and unwanted system infringements can cause financial damage, and may also cause irreparable reputational damage. Aarenet developed the Triple-A System Security Suite to protect the system and limit the potential damage to the system and to the Service Provider.
Aarenet Triple-A Security System Suite is a set of active and passive system tools and application related security features which are designed to prevent illegal access attempts to all system components and to minimise any associated damage if the system is compromised.
The Aarenet Security Suite is categorised in three feature groups. The Secure Limiter function was designed to block fraudulent access attempts to the SIP Clients’ accounts. The Security Protect function analyses the egress and ingress IP traffic for anomaly and the Security Connect function will limit unallowed access attempts into the system. The Aarenet Triple-A Security System Suite forms a strong secured base of a contemporary Carrier Grade VoIP system security.
“Security in VoIP solutions, especially for large system deployments, is a major concern for any carrier and its implementation is key for any technical and commercial deployment. In the nowadays connected world, system infringements are communicated quickly and can cause major damage, not only financial but also reputational. We developed a powerful set of features to protect the core VoIP system. This will not only reduce the damage, but will also reduce or prevent the system infringement to happen in the first place.” says Mr. Emanuel Eggenberg – Aarenet COO.
In all new system deployments, the Aarenet Triple-A Security Suite is installed in the background. The Secure Limit feature with Topstop feature and Time Controlled Block Sets is activated as standard. Optionally, the Security Protect and Connect features can be licensed and activated. Aarenet will develop further advanced security features within the different categories.

"an PC-Phone" Desktop Client for Aarenet VoIP Systems
Aarenet developed and released a VoIP desktop client with integrated auto provisioning to enhance the end user experience. The client combines a comfortable VoIP client with UM functionalities like chat and video calling features and enables calls from the desktop pc using the fixed phone line anywhere where private network or public internet connection is available. Contacts of Outlook mail program or LDAP server connectivity integrate existing contacts into the client for easy dialling. Furthermore, simplified secure provisioning automates the registration process and ensures a full integration with system features.
Frank Remmers, Sales Director at Aarenet: “desktop clients and smartphones apps have passed the experimental usage and are now considered as valid solutions together with hardware based deskphones. There are many commercial solutions available and to ensure that the different features are tested and operating correctly we have decided to offer an integrated VoIP feature client. If required by the solution provider, it is even possible to develop a personalised version with channel customisation of the client. This will include adaptation of the product name and skin colour in line with the corporate appearance of the channel partner. This customisation will further strengthen the brand identity between the end user and the provider.
We consider the end user experience and the easy auto setup of the desktop client as the most important user benefits. Our desktop client “an PC-Phone” covers both items and ensures a secure connection into the Aarenet VoIP system. Activing the client is as simple as entering a username and password and relieves the customer from entering SIP credentials and other system settings. User features like video call, system chat functionality and Click2Dial from internet browsing simplify the use and provides powerful comfort features. The application can be used for both office based and travelling employees. We will continue to develop our mobility clients and will implement additional features to further develop the end-user experience.”
Together with the smartphone clients for ios and Android (“an IP-Phone”) and the broad range of integrated IP Phones from prime manufacturers, Aarenet supports a broad range of end-user devices and solutions. In further development stages more client features will be implemented to grow the system in line with the market development and requirements.
“an PC-Phone” is available for commercial deployment with the release of the system software 6.0.
Release of Embedded SBC Functionality
Aarenet new system software includes the release of embedded Session Border Controller (e-SBC) functionality. This feature enables a secure connection to different private or public networks. An embedded solution reduces the total cost of ownership compared to a separate SBC and it will simplify the management and maintenance of the total solution.
Daniel Jaggi, CTO of Aarenet: “We have several customer installations where different networks are aggregated into an Aarenet backbone system. An SBC separates the different networks from each other and provides a secure boundary against illegal access from external sources. We have decided to implement the SBC functionality in the core system as existing solutions are often more expensive and quite complicated to configure. A secure border between the public network (internet), private networks and the core system reduces the vulnerability of the systems against fraud to a minimum. An embedded solution developed as an integral part of the system increases the transparency of the system and is a significant benefit for the operation and support of such systems.”
The new functionality will be available for systems shipped with software release 6.0.

Aarenet Launches Enterprise Virtual PBX
