The Covid-19 pandemic has instigated negative impacts to our daily life and businesses. Thanks to the many lockdown measures in Europe, we are back to some normality. As a result, travel is possible again between many European countries as well as many other activities which were previously inhibited. This has allowed us to ramp up our business step-by-step in an almost regular fashion. But the recent increasing number of new infections in Europe reminds us that the virus is still there, and new lockdown initiatives could be reinstated towards the winter season.
In Asia where the Governments have enforced much tougher regulations result in a complete travel ban between different countries. Therefore, we had adapted to do almost everything remotely and this was a very challenging but rewarding decision. For example, Certification Training has been conducted on-line since April with good success. Most notably, system installation activities have been carried out remotely for all PoC and Carrier-grade systems successfully by the Operations team with on-site support from our Systems Partners. The concept of having local staffs close to our Customers as well as a NOC in Vietnam to service our APAC Customers, has proven to be the right decision. We don’t expect travel to be possible between Europe and Asia before the end of the year.
Unfortunately, we had to cancel our annual APAC Partner Conference which was planned for November in Bali. Depending on local Covid-19 situation, we plan to host local seminars to inform our Partners and Customers about new developments - especially the new AS7 major release with enhanced virtual PBX and UC functionality.
I am looking forward for us returning to normalcy step-by-step ensuring safety for all Aarenet employees.
Felix Jakob, CEO Aarenet AG

“As Covid-19 continues to impact the worldwide business, I want to share an update on the necessary implementation we have taken to ensure business and operational continuity for our employees, partners and customers. At Aarenet, the health and safety of all our employees, partners and customers are our main focus and it is our number one priority.
We strictly follow the advisory of the relevant governments as well as health authorities and in compliance, we have implemented a series of measures to limit all risks of infections to an absolute minimum. We have initiated a worldwide travel ban for several weeks and in all of our offices, policy was instated where only the most vital positions need to be available in persons to avoid infection exposure. The rest of our employees are working from home whenever possible.
We are using our own Unified Communication and digital Collaboration tools to create a comfortable, functional and efficient mobile working environment for our employees while they are working at home. It is vital for us that our partners and customers receive a satisfying level of support as they have experienced in the past during this difficult period. We also observe a rapid increasing demand from our customers for such UCC tools. Moreover, through teamwork and advanced preparation, we have been able to support our service provider customers to cope with sudden surge in the usage of their communication infrastructure. Thanks to the quality and robustness of our solutions, we did not face any system failure and through swift system upgrades and expansions, we managed to comply with the increased traffic volumes. We have observed in the past weeks an exceptional effort of our customers and the entire Aarenet team working together in a cohesive and pragmatic fashion to warrant normalcy status during this difficult period.
The situation is changing every day and we will continue to adjust our policy if deemed necessary. I am confident that we will be able to maintain our service levels for our global customer base ensuring that they will receive our support and services without any disruption or quality degradation.”

The new Aarenet VoIP System Software Release 6.14 has been approved for general application commencing April 10th, 2020. Effective immediately, newly deployed systems will be commissioned with this new software release. A seamless upgrade service for existing installations is offered without impacting the availability of active service.
Among the many newly developed features, software release 6.14 introduces a new software licensing scheme. In this scheme, concurrent call licenses and account licenses are split and can be ordered and upgraded independently from each other. This offers specific advantages in a setup where traditional class5 usage is combined with class4 gateway trunking in the same system. The new license setup will be applicable for new deployments only. Existing customers will continue to use the existing license scheme.
Further to the new licensing scheme, the new software version includes support for Fanvil X3SP, X4, X6 and X7 SIP-phones in the auto-provisioning sub-system. Backward compatibility with older versions of Aarenet software is possible through device profiles import.
The new SBC White-Black List filtering provides an enhanced layer of security to the SBC functionality. Multiple SIP header checks can be executed to ensure that only the correct SIP messages arrive to the system while dropping malicious one.
To facilitate the re-use of an existing vPBX extension for a new co-worker, a special feature to renew an extension has been created. This function will clean-out all relevant personal data of the previous user, without changing the call distribution and phone configuration of the specific extension.
General support maintenance and additional “an Web-Phone” feature integration are other valuable enhancements included in the new version.
Details of all included features within this software release will be communicated upon request.

Aarenet announced today that it released an integration with the Microsoft Teams UCC solution. The integration enables connectivity between the external telephone network (PSTN) and connected MS Teams. MS Teams UCC users can receive incoming calls from non-MS Teams users and can also dial to any external or mobile phone number. In combination with the Aarenet vPBX extended telephony features like call distribution, call forwarding, voice mail and Interactive Voice Response (IVR) are part of the combined offering.
Microsoft Teams is a UC (unified communications) platform that combines workplace chat, video meetings, file storage (including collaboration on files), and application integration. The service integrates with the company's Office 365 productivity suite and features extensions that can integrate with non-Microsoft products.
Teams allow communities, groups, or teams to join through a specific URL or invitation sent by a team administrator or owner. Direct messages allow users to send private messages to a specific user rather than a group of people. Meetings can be scheduled or created ad-hoc and users visiting the group channel are able to see that a meeting is currently in progress. Until now, MS Teams is a closed group communication solution without built-in connectivity to the public telephone network.
The Aarenet integration enables customers to benefit from all Teams services plus granting basic PSTN service access, Class.5 Telephony services and also an integration with a vPBX extension. MS Teams client can now make and receive PSTN telephone calls.
In addition to the basic telephony features, advanced Class-5 integration will deploy many additional services to the MS Teams clients, such as call distributions, call forking, IVR, advanced call forwarding and Fax 2 Mail.
Frank Remmers, Sales Director at Aarenet: “The integration will enable us to open and focus on an additional marketsegment. Many IT consuting companies and product houses have experience in selling IT products and services but have been unfamiliar with telephony services. This barrier is now disappearing, and MS Teams can now be used to make any phone call into the public network. The integration combines the best of breeds and complements the missing link of either solution.Aarenet’s built-in features like call forwarding, fax3mail and voicemail functionality fill the gap of the features required by the MS Teams users. Even though it is expected that (part of) this functionality will be developed within the application, this may still take some time. Aarenet can provide an integration for Aarenet users who want to deploy MS Teams and those MS Teams users who want to connect to the public telephony network.“
The integration can be realised through a cloud based operational model or through an on-premise based license scheme. The solution is fully redundant, supports mulitple tenants and can support a virtual unlimited number of different MS Teams instances.
Details of the included features will be communicated upon request.

Aarenet announced today that it hosted the 2018 APAC Partner Conference event at the Shangri-La Rasa Sayang in Penang, a UNESCO World Heritage city in Malaysia. The three-day event was a great success as Aarenet Management team and Keynote Speakers had the opportunity to deliver relevant regional strategy best practices such as VoIP and System Security, Aarenet Customers and Partners Community (APCC) concept, Enhanced Applications & Services, Operational News, Technology Trends and Development Roadmap. Our Customers and Partners also had opportunities to collaborate and networking through the break-out workshop sessions. “Being able to team up in smaller groups, our Partners and Customers were able to effectively deliberate the relevant discussion topics in a very friendly but effective and productive manner.”, said Mr. Luzi von Salis, Aarenet Board Member.
“I attended a lot of Partner Conferences which were usually long drawn out and boring. I am pleased that the recent Aarenet Partner Conference was very well organised and the subjects covered by the Keynote Speakers were thought-provoking, succinct, interesting, and without hyperbole. I especially found Herr Andreas Danuser’s workshop to be really educational. The news of the soon to be available Phoenix platform was indeed welcomed as it will widen Aarenet's offerings and keep Aarenet relevant into the foreseeable future.”, said Dato Ravi Shanker, Chairman - Asiankom.
During the course of this Conference, Aarenet presented Partner of Year awards 2017 and 2018 to our selected Partners. It is not easy to achieve this award as our Partners had to meet a stringent set of criteria defined by Aarenet. We are very pleased with our selection and we look forward to extend this award to qualified Partners in 2019 and future years.
“In order to receive the Partners of the Year awards, the Recipients had to deliver strong revenues to Aarenet, extended Aarenet’s services and solutions to new Vertical markets, provided high quality and support services to both Aarenet and our Customers. Aarenet has released a new desktop client for Windows and Mac desktops. The application, based on WebRTC, provides a browser-oriented application that connects to the Aarenet VoIP System. It provides a phone extension without the need to connect a physical device. Chat and group chat functionality, secure voice encryption as well as video call support complete a suite of business applications.
WebRTC is an open-source web-based application technology and allows users to send real-time media without the need for installing plugins. The speech information is encrypted using the secure real time communication protocol (SRTP) and provides a good protection and privacy.
In the “an Web-Phone” application, busy state status can be made visible for all stored contacts which are connected to the same system and supports real-time status updates. During an active call, the user status is automatically changed to “busy”. Instant message functionality to online internal contacts further increases the user experience. Calling to compatible SIP phone or to Aarenet’s smartphone client “an IP-Phone” in video mode completes the set of comfort features.
To enhance the reachability of the user, a standalone desktop application, “an Web-Phone App” has been developed. Using this application, a standard executable desktop application is visible in the taskbar of the client.
Frank Remmers, Sales Director at Aarenet says: “The use of WebRTC technology broadens the application scope and will improve the user experience even further compared to a legacy phone. The trend from traditional telephone sets to the use of soft phones is visible and with the “an Web-Phone” we provide in combination with the Smartphone App an IP-Phone a valuable option. Through the application, the user can view and administer account features like call forwarding, voice mail settings and call distributions. Finally, the SRTP protocol ensures a good protection of the communication against eavesdrop attempts.”
The new application can be activated on all systems with software version 6.11 or higher. Customisation can be offered to show the customer’s logo and background colour in the application.
The new Aarenet VoIP System Release 6.11 has been released End of October 2018 for production. Effective immediately, systems deployed at new customers will be equipped with the new release. An update service for existing installations is offered without impacting the availability of active service.
To advance in the development of desktop-based communication clients, a browser independent version of the softphone application “an Web-Phone” was developed. Supporting windows and MAC operating systems, the application allows WebRTC based telephony services without the need to keep a browser window open. This broadens the application scope and will improve the user experience. Through the application, the user can now view and administer account features like call forwarding, voice mail settings and call distributions. Managing the account through a single application improves and eases the end-user application experience.
Furthermore, the new version now supports the latest Polycom SIP Phones. The Polycom VVX 600 phone is built for executives and managers who need a powerful, yet intuitive, expandable office phone that helps them stay connected. Founded on the behavior common to smartphones and tablets, the intuitive gesture-based, multi-touch user interface of the VVX 600 phone makes navigation easy and requires minimal training. With its combined ergonomic design, Polycom HD Voice quality and a large, high resolution color, multi-touch screen, the VVX 600 Business Media phone is ideal.
Together with the VVX 600, also auto-provisioning features for the VVX 410 and VVX 201 are developed and integrated.
Next to planned software maintenance, specific customer features have been implemented. Details of all included features will be communicated upon request.

Talktalk AG implemented the Aarenet VoIP app for IOS and Android smartphones to offer an alternative to make voice calls whilst roaming to their customers. With the application, travellers can reduce their roaming charges (roam like home) in any location with Wi-Fi network coverage.
Karl Steinke, CEO TalkTalk AG: "We wanted to offer a solution for our customers with a mobile postpaid contract. We know that roaming costs during holidays or during business travels are still a major part of the invoiced charges and limit also the customer to use their mobile phone subscription abroad. Our target was to offer an additional benefit for our customers. The integration of the Aarenet solution into our customer account login makes it extremely easy for the customer to use. When our customers leave for their summer vacation or are travelling for business, calls they make are charged on the same tariff as for calls made in Switzerland".
Frank Remmers, Sales Director Aarenet: "We were able to implement this solution thanks to the flexibility of our carrier grade platform. Next to the significant savings for outgoing calls compared to mobile roaming charges, a strong point we can offer is the easy provision through QR code scanning and the automatic linking with the user account. Roaming charges in Europe may further reduce or may even be included into a flat fee rate, but travellers to countries outside of the EU may still incur significant roaming charges.
